Bio

Steve has written hundreds of stories, mem-wars, plays, poems, and essays, many of which have been rejected by The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, and other prestigious publications. His writing has appeared in HuffPost, as an art blog, and an Op-Ed on social justice in the Northern Westchester Examiner, about a racist judge who later that year was censured. Several of his stories were published in the Gold Coast Gazette and his food stories and recipes have been published by The Cook’s Cook. His most popular story, "Medical Heretic", appears online in Nutmeg≈Aspirin.

In 2017, he produced his own one-act play, "Draft Resister," in Manhattan Repertoire Theatre. It was considered for best political play of 2018 by Newman-Castillo Theatre. (On the subject of politics, the New York Times ran a profile of him as “the Remaining Nader Faithful.”) In 2018 he published his first book, Posterboy For Planned Parenthood & Other Stories, and in 2019, he published his second, The Wrong Stuff. Steve’s third book, I Told You So, was published in 2021. His writing is also featured in the 2019 Glen Cove Writers Group anthology, Tales From The Mosquito Coast. I Told You So

Read this new collection of previously unpublished stories from where memories and imagination play inside Steve Sloane’s well-lit brain. Meet an innocent teenage Michel Jackson in Las Vegas and dig James Brown, peaking at the Apollo. Consort with dirty cops and their crooked attorney, drinking beer, poolside. Visit The Five Spot Cafe in Greenwich Village to hear the virtuoso Charles Mingus play and tell you about how the white music industry rips off black artists. Get the scoop about toxic sweeteners from the doctor who discovered them, and the cancer epidemic that they fueled, not to mention other medical-industrial malpractices. These short stories are rich, like condensed novels. There is tragedy here and humor. You can laugh and cry. Nobody’s watching.
